Botox

Botox is also used cosmetically in patients with excessive gum display, commonly called a gummy smile.

The clinic describes a procedure taking around ten minutes, without anaesthesia, to address this problem.

Botulinum Toxin · Frequently asked questions

General patient information. Your examination determines diagnosis and the treatment suitable for you.

Is botulinum toxin the first option for jaw pain?

Diagnosis and simpler, reversible approaches are generally considered first. Jaw pain can have different causes.

Does botulinum toxin reliably cure jaw disorders?

No. Evidence for temporomandibular disorders is mixed, so a guaranteed cure should not be promised.

Do jaw-joint sounds require treatment?

Sounds without pain or loss of function do not always need treatment. Pain, locking or difficulty opening needs assessment.

What should be assessed before considering botulinum toxin?

The pain source, jaw movement, medical history and alternatives are assessed. Discuss potential benefits, uncertainties and risks individually.
